'''The Long Way Home – Dutch version'''

Translation - Gerry De Mol : Blokje Om

gerry@rusteloosheid.be

Recording for:

Gerry De Mol & Eva De Roovere’s new album “Min & Meer” (More and Less)

Singer Eva De Roovere and guitarist, composer, arranger Gerry De Mol have been working together for almost five years. They started out together in the meta-worldmusic group Oblomow and created “Kleine Blote Liedjes” (little naked songs) - their previous duo-album – in the beginning of 2004.

Agianst all odds the album – which was marked by simple, small orchestration (hence, het title, which means Little Naked Songs) – struck the Album hit charts at 16 in 2004 and stayed there. Listeners of the main Belgian radiostation Radio 1 voted “Op een hoopje” as the “best song of 2004”.

The album was also critically appraised for the lyrics, orchestration as well as the singing quality.

Eva De Roovere & Gerry De Mol are currently preparing a second album which will be called “Min &Meer”, and in which they would like to include a translation in dutch of “The Long Way Home” (translation attached to this letter).

We would like to ask authorisation for the translation by Gerry De Mol as a local version of the song. We would like to have this recording in the new album “Min & Meer” , we expect a lot of press and airplay, sales in Belgium around 10.000 ex., there will be a campaign in The Netherlands. We also would like to publish the translated text in the booklet of the CD.

The present recording is a rough mix of the final recordings, produced by Gerry De Mol and Marc Ribot-producer Gert-Jan Blom (Beau Hunks) with:

Gerry De Mol: bariton ukuleles, banjos, Eva De Roovere: jawbone and vocals Gert-Jan Blom: guitarron Frederic Malempré: poppy-seeds

Approx. date of release: 1 september

'''Translation in Dutch:

Een Blokje Om'''

Translation of The Long Way Home (Tom Waits) Translation: Gerry De Mol

'''Literary Translation (some standing expression in Dutch explained)'''

''Een Blokje Om''

“One Block around” (it’s a standing expression in Dutch meaning: taking a longer way home)

Translation of The Long Way Home (Tom Waits) Translation: Gerry De Mol

I stumble over my own feet (Dutch expression for stumbling with no particular reason) When I show you the way When i walk a bit in front of you it’s always dark where i live There’s a licht close to the door And i don’t really know why But, forgive me, darling, I always take a block around

I throw my money from the roof (standing expression for: spending money easily) That’s the best use for it I have a hat full of rain And a handfull of lighting And I know, I promise I will never do anything that stupid again I love you so much but I always walk a block around

And I have always something to eat And a roof that keeps me dry But I would trade it in tomorrow I keep the things I love (wordgame: keep and love are very similar words in dutch: “hou”) I take the highway for a ride and i never turn around One thing’s for sure I always take a block around

And you know I’m yours More than I’m mine You are my pearl My comfort, my warm hero When we are alone in the dark And alone we are on our way Than go with me Then we take another block around Come with me, we take a block around Come with me, together, we take a block around
